Dentist Faces Sentencing In Child-sex-for-drugs Case
HAGERTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A dentist faces up to 10 years in prison for arranging to have sex with a 12-year-old girl in exchange for prescription painkillers and cash.
Vaqar Choudry of Germantown is scheduled for sentencing Thursday in Hagerstown.
The 44-year-old dentist was convicted in September of sexual solicitation of a minor. Local and federal drug enforcement agents arrested him in 2013 at a motel near his Hagerstown office where he had arranged to meet the fictitious child.
Choudry pleaded guilty to a related federal drug distribution charge last year. He served 95 days in jail for that offense and is on supervised probation. His license to practice dentistry was suspended in 2013.
Defense attorneys argued during the solicitation trial that a female informant who helped police was not a credible witness.
