Md. State Trooper Crashes While Driving Drunk

ELKTON, Md. (WJZ) -- A state trooper, who was already on probation, is now facing charges after driving under the influence on Thursday morning in Cecil County.

Maryland State Police troopers responded to the report of an overturned vehicle on Route 279, north of Appleton Road. The first officer to reach the scene found the driver, later identified as a state trooper, showing signs of intoxication while still in the vehicle.

State trooper Thomas C. Hobbs, 26, was assigned citations at the hospital, and his policing powers have been suspended.

Hobbs has been employed by the Maryland State Police for 17 months.

He has been suspended from duty with pay.
