Wal-Mart Workers To Protest For Higher Pay, Full-Time Hours

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wal-Mart workers in Washington and other cities will be spending Black Friday protesting for higher wages.

The employees are asking to be paid $15 an hour and to work full time rather than part time. They claim they and their families are going hungry because of low wages and limited hours.

In Washington, the protest will be held on Friday morning outside the Wal-Mart near Union Station, one of three Wal-Mart stores in the city.

Wal-Mart spokesman Brian Nick says in a statement that the company's average full-time worker earns more than $13 per hour and has the opportunity to earn bonuses. He says Wal-Mart is "proud of the wages and benefits packages" it offers.
