Thanksgiving Travelers Heading Home Should Expect Delays, Security

LINTHICUM, Md. (WJZ) -- Four days of action-packed holiday fun are over.

Now it's time for thousands of travelers to return home and many of them will need assistance getting back home.

Gigi Barnett explains.

Travelers reached their destinations by plane, train or car. But the good holiday times have come and gone.

While mild, dry weather greeted passengers and cars on the way to Thanksgiving destinations -- it's a different story coming home, as it's rainy and cooler.

And they'll have plenty of company.

"A lot of people make Thanksgiving sort of this long holiday weekend so we expect the roads to be somewhat crowded," said Ragina Averella, AAA Mid-Atlantic.

At BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport and Penn Station beefed up security was noticed.

"All around here, I see security," said one passenger. "They're watching out."

Last year AAA says their roadside repair crews helped at least 1,000 drivers over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

About one million Marylanders traveled this holiday weekend. AAA says that's about the same as last year.
