WEATHER BLOG: Rain Coming

While a chill in the air reminds us that Winter is just around the corner, this November's actual temperatures have been well above normal. Across most of eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York and northern New Jersey, the median temperature, or a calculated average of all maximum and minimum values during the first twenty-nine days of the month, show that November of 2015 has been between 5 and 7 degrees above 'normal'. So, you'll have to excuse us if we refer to today as a 'chilly' day, even though the temperature in most places will be reaching the mid-40s.

Taking a look back at the holiday weekend, the unusual warmth of Thanksgiving Day wasn't really dealt a 'knockout blow' until Saturday night -- at least not in most areas located east of the Appalachians... The cold front that ushered in yesterday's chillier air did bring a little rain, most of which happened on Saturday and early Saturday night in the Northeast... But as we anticipated, the rain took until midday yesterday to come to an end in areas located much farther to the south, including the Greater Philadelphia Area and the Baltimore/Washington D.C. Metro areas...

A strong high pressure system of Canadian origin has been pressing southward over the past 36 hours, and is sponsoring the chilly air mass that's currently in place... Also, the front that moved through the region on Saturday is now located down in the Carolinas. This front expected reverse its course, returning northward (as a warm front) over the next 48 hours... It will be a catalyst for some light rainfall north of the Mason-Dixon Line as early as late tonight...

However, most of the rain we're going to get will occur here tomorrow, tomorrow night and Wednesday... Mild and moist air pushing northward along the Eastern Seaboard will push most temperatures into the upper 40s and lower 50s tomorrow. Then, the mercury isn't expected to move very much tomorrow night... Wednesday will qualify as the mildest day of the week, when our temperatures will be 'solidly' in the (mid and upper) 50s -- it could even reach 60 on some thermometers between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Whenever December gets off to this kind of a mild start, there's usually plenty of clouds and some rain involved in the mix -- this time will be no exception... We think that the most widespread rain will be happening here later Wednesday/early Wednesday night, a time frame when a cold front will be bearing down on the East Coast... Also, a ripple of low pressure moving along that front will enhance rain to some extent.
