With Just A Few Clicks, Amazon Brings Food To Your Door

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—With a few clicks, dinner is served! Starting Thursday, more than 60 Baltimore area restaurants will come directly to your door.

It's just another way retail giant Amazon is changing the way we live, one delivery at a time.

WJZ's Jessica Kartalija has the details.

City Cafe customers can now have their favorite meal delivered right to their door.

"So we get a call from Amazon saying they want to get into the food delivery business. You kind of jump at that opportunity and give it a whirl," said Bruce Bodie, owner of the City Café.

City Cafe is one of more than 50 area restaurants now delivering to ten Baltimore City zip codes through Amazon Prime's app.

"Customers can just open the app and look and scroll through great restaurants," said Amazon spokesman Tom Cook. "They can see the full menu and within seconds, they can place an order and have it delivered on an average--within 39 minutes. We are really bringing local favorites direct to their homes, so they don't have to drive, go out in bad weather and jump in a cab to go to a restaurant.  They can get great restaurants delivered to their homes," said Cook.

Some say they'll stick to dining out.

"I think it's a wonderful idea if you're that busy.  Personally, I like the idea of getting out of the office for an hour and away from the telephone," said Harold Dubois.

But for those who opt to stay in, you'll have plenty of options.

"Baltimore being on the forefront of something this huge is actually really exciting," Bodie says.
