Manhole Overflow In Baltimore Spills 16K Gallons Of Sewage

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A rainstorm caused a manhole to overflow, spilling more than 16,000 gallons of water and sewage in East Baltimore.

According to the Department of Public Works the overflow occurred on the 1700 block of East Chase Street at about 6:45 p.m. Friday. Officials say the leak stopped at about 9:30 p.m.

Officials say warning signs have been posted in the area, and are encouraging residents to avoid streams in and around the city due to the possibility of contamination.
