Major Online Shaving Supply Company Based In Balt. Co.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- In the past few years, selling shaving supplies online has gone from nearly zero to a quarter of a billion dollar business. One of the top four online suppliers is based in Baltimore County.
Mike Schuh shows us what else makes their product special.
In a warehouse in Windsor Mill, there's a flurry of activity---all centered around razor blades.
"Which has our shave cream, our aftershave, four cartridges and a handle," said Phillip Masiello.
Masiello, the founder of 800razor.com, is at its center; he says business is booming.
"Well, I'll tell you why: every man and woman wants a great shave but they're tired of overpaying for it," Masiello said.
These razors go out to 120,000 customers---but these razors don't pack themselves.
"I was looking for a company that could do rework of products," he said.
Rework: pack two of these and one of those; every order is different.
That's where Chimes worker Charles Millington comes in, filling and boxing the orders. He's developmentally disabled and Chimes finds jobs for 1,100 people like him.
"Having a paycheck is a big step on the road to independence. Having a paycheck and working alongside others is so incredibly meaningful to these folks because it says they're accepted," said Chimes International President Marty Lamper.
"I like it. I like my job," Millington said.
The company could have a traditional workforce do these jobs, but the people from Chimes are doing so well, they're going to expand the relationship.
That razor company has been working with Chimes for about a year and recently expanded their role.
