The 'Black Monday' Firing Recap

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The NFL's most awkward annual tradition is Black Monday. It's a time when (mostly) struggling teams attempt to clean house and reboot their coaching staff and other parts of the organizations.

So far, we've seen a few changes around the league, and thankfully, none that effect Baltimore.

  • Chip Kelly was one of the first to be let go in the approaching Black Monday period. He was fired from the Philadelphia Eagles
  • The Cleveland Browns fired both their head coach Mike Pettine and general manager Ray Farmer. Funny enough, actor who played the Browns' head coach in the movie, Draft Day, along side Kevin Costner as the general manager, reached out on Twitter to propose a deal. Can't say that would work, but it sure did on the big screen!
  • Tom Coughlin will not return as Giants coach. Coughlin left the Giants before they could fire him saying, "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as head coach of the New York Football Giants. This is a not a sad occasion for me. I have spent 15 years with this organization as an assistant and head coach and was fortunate to be part of three Super Bowl winning teams."
  • The 49ers announced  they fired coach Jim Tomsula after just one season with the team. And it must have struck a nerve with former 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh who posted, "Do not be deceived. You will reap what you sow."
  • The Chargers fired their offensive coordinator and a bunch of staff, but extended the contract for their GM Tom Telesco, but considering the advancements made in the potential move to Los Angeles, these may not be the only changes coming for staffing.

Think any more fires or hires will come up this week?
