Tim Booth Previews Seahawks-Vikings Game

Tim Booth with the Associated Press in Seattle joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to preview the Seahawks vs Vikings wild card game.

The Seahawks have been one of the hottest teams in the NFL the last 7 weeks; Tim talked about how Seattle looks to ride that momentum on the road in the playoffs as a wild card team. "In a way they've actually been a better team on the road this year. They have won five straight on the road. I don't think them playing away from home is a big deal. For whatever reason they have been a better road team this year and they're going to have to be to get where they've been."

Throughout the season the Seahawks have lost key players on the offensive side. From Marshawn Lynch to Jimmy Graham and then later losing backup running back Thomas Rawls; Russell Wilson has had to put the team on his back down the stretch of the season. Tim talked about what changed for Wilson to take his game to the next level. "They did a lot of evaluating and self scouting during their bye week. They had the opportunity to look at what was working and what wasn't working." One of the things that wasn't working for Seattle was "they could not protect Russell Wilson enough. Part of the problem was the kind of plays that were being called. They were having him hold the ball longer and he was being a little apprehensive with getting rid of the ball. It was a massive overhaul in that bye week. They changed some of their protections, inserted Patrick Lewis at center...and they went with a quicker passing game. They're using concepts with multiple receivers so that one of them will come open and Russell is trusting that those guys are going to be there."

Seattle travels to Minnesota to face the NFL's rushing leader in Adrian Peterson and the Vikings. When these two teams first met in Week 13, Adrian Peterson was held to just 18 yards on 8 carries leading to a 38-7 win for Seattle. Tim talked about the dominant front seven for Seattle, "In that first game, very early on they forced that game into Teddy Bridgewater's hands which is what you hope to do playing against the Vikings. Seattle's defensive line has been really disruptive this year and I think more than any other year they are the reason they are the leagues top run defense."
