Maryland Transportation Officials Preparing For Wet Weather

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Transportation says it's preparing for the first snow and ice of the season, forecast to arrive during the evening rush.

The agency said in a statement that crews will use salt as needed to treat the roadways Tuesday, depending on pavement temperatures and intensity of the snow.

The National Weather Service predicts widespread rain and snow showers, with strong winds, from late afternoon to early evening, followed by falling temperatures.

The weather service says snow accumulations could range from a trace in the Baltimore-Washington area to several inches in Garrett County in far western Maryland.

Garrett County public schools closed three hours early Tuesday. Overnight temperatures there are forecast to drop into the single digits.
