Man Who Raped, Shot Woman In Head Is Arrested

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--A sigh of relief after the man who shot a 20-year-old woman in her head after raping her is captured by police.

Police say it is all thanks to the tips from people living in the community. The suspect, 20-year-old Michael Jordan Brown, was spotted in the community and later taken into custody on an unrelated robbery warrant.

While in police custody, Brown confessed to Saturday's gruesome incident, in which he pulled a 20-year-old woman into an alley, raped her, all before shooting her right in the head.

"You're not going to harm this community without attracting our attention," said Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis. "When you attract our attention, meaning police and the community, we're going to do everything we can to bring you to justice."

Police say the vicious crime Brown committed, may not be his first sexual offense.

"In the general area we have reports of six sexual assaults since December 2014. Not every one of them involved the same detail," Smith said.

Jordan's mug shot is being withheld from the public because it could tamper other sexual assault cases.

After Saturday's attack police and community activist were out canvassing the neighborhood alerting people living in the West Baltimore community.

Also this week, 300 Men March walked children home from after school care at the Kid's Safe Zone.

"I didn't want to walk at all. I had to ask my brother, my nephew or a friend of mine," said one woman. "My dad is too old to walk me. I didn't want to walk at all."

Tonight a community, particularly women living in West Baltimore are relieved the man behind a heinous crime is off the streets.

"I am really feeling a lot safer. I can come out my house, not worry about my mother or my sister, or the other women in the neighbor," said Katrina Henson, who lives in the community.

Jordan's previous record does not include sexual assaults.

Police say the 20-year-old woman remains in the hospital tonight in fair condition.
