Md. Commits $1.5M To Fund Pride Of Baltimore II

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There is some great news for the Pride of Baltimore II's future.

The state is launching a new three-year partnership with the sailing vessel.

It has agreed to commit $1.5 million to help fund the nonprofit that owns and operates the Pride II.

Governor Hogan says the Pride II generates valuable exposure and goodwill for the state.

The topsail schooner was launched in 1988. A replica of the Baltimore clippers that were built in the city more than 200 years ago, the Pride II has traveled to ports around the U.S. and in 40 countries.

Its predecessor, Pride of Baltimore, sank in a squall off Puerto Rico in 1986.
