BGE Preparing For Power Outages As High Winds Expected During Storm

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- External utility crews are arriving from other states to help Baltimore Gas & Electric manage any power outages that may occur due to the impending storm.

A high wind warning was issued for the Baltimore metro area from 1 a.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service predicts the wind will have impacts in Maryland from downed trees and power lines to minor structural damage.

Nine hundred tree and overhead line contractors will help assist BGE's 3,200 employees to mobilize during the storm.

"We routinely support major storm restoration efforts in other regions as part of a system that helps ensure that when our customers need assistance, we can call on the necessary resources," said Rob Biagiotti, BGE vice president, customer operations and chief customer officer. "With the assistance of our Exelon sister utility, ComEd, and the many other utility workers who join our hard working BGE employees, we're ready to restore power as safely and quickly as possible."

Customers, including those with smart meters, can report power outages through BGE's mobile website at BGE.com, or at 877.778.2222.

BGE also says residents should be prepared with flashlights and extra batteries, charged mobile devices and a supply of bottled water and non-perisible food.

Residents should stay away from downed trees and lines.
