MTA Suspending Service This Weekend Due To Storm

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The MTA is temporarily suspending all service through the weekend due to the snowstorm in Maryland.

Service will be suspended starting midnight Friday through Monday, Jan. 25.

Depending on weather conditions, transportation services could be suspended sooner.

"A major storm is about to hit our region and we, at the MTA, care about our customers and want them to be prepared, safe and well-informed," said MTA Administrator and CEO Paul Comfort. "To make that happen, we're telling people our plans for transit in advance; however, these plans may change depending on the severity of the storm."

"We encourage the public to get to their destinations quickly as transit schedules are based upon weather conditions.  MTA is working in collaboration with WMATA, our regional transit partner in D.C., to provide information as quickly and as early as possible so our transit riders can plan accordingly," Comfort added. "The steps we are taking today are to protect the safety of our customers and operators, allow first responders and snow removal equipment unimpeded access to the roads, and allow the MTA to return more quickly to normal operations after the storm."

Service reductions will begin around 7 p.m. Friday depending on conditions.
