Neighbors Across The City Helping Each Other Dig Out

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's a scene being played out all across the city and the state--neighbors helping each other dig out.

Ron Matz reports.

From Canton to Columbia and Westminster to Waverly, neighbors are helping neighbors dig out from this record Baltimore snowfall.

The plows are working overtime and the snow is piled high. A

long E. 32nd Street near Barclay Street, Ted Applegarth is digging out with a little help from his friends.

"Yeah, everybody is out. It's kind of like a sidewalk shovel party going on. It's a good community for that kind of thing. Everybody kind of looks out for each other, and it showed yesterday," said Applegarth.

A community showing support amidst a record-breaking Baltimore snowfall.

"People getting together, working together on their own cars. Teamwork's good in weather like this," one man said.

Just ask Dave Stahl, the owner of the legendary Pete's Grille, open for business thanks to a fraternity at Johns Hopkins University.

"They deserve a call out. I think it's Beta Theta Pi," Stahl said. "They responded to the need, sent five or six guys over with shovels and in about half an hour had us ready to go."

At Pete's Grille Monday, they offered free coffee to police, fire and EMS workers.

Baltimore City has 1,200 pieces of equipment out cleaning.
