Baltimore Boat Show A Sign Of Warmer Times To Come

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It might not feel like it right now, but four days of hard winter weather isn't forever.

Alex DeMetrick reports on a sure sign of warmer times to come.

It might look like a frozen ghost fleet, but more than 300 boats are on the move into the convention center for Baltimore's annual boat show.

And even though everyone's dealing with the remains of a blizzard...

"Hopefully the weather has got everybody cabin fever and they're ready to get out and start thinking about warm weather," said Tara Davis, boat show manager.

But to do that, crews had to first drive through winter to get here.

"The corners were a little tight because of all the snow mounds," one man said.

"The snow, the salt, it gets caked on the hulls. It's a nightmare. But we're really good at what we do, and it's more than just a wash. We'll get it looking brand new," said Gavin Schember, All Class Detailing.

So the protective winter coats of shrink wrap are being peeled away, and instead of scraping ice and snow, polish is going on.

"Hopefully it's going to be a really good show and people will be buying boats," said Mark Carl, Otter Creek Marina.

The purpose of this show is to sell boats. And while winter may not seem like the best time...

"Now is the time to order a new boat so that it's ready to go in the water by the time the weather gets warm," said Davis.

A wish floating a lot of boats right now.

The Baltimore Boat Show starts this Thursday and runs through the weekend.
