Grand Jury Investigating Planned Parenthood Indicts Accusers Instead

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A grand jury investigating the alleged sale of fetal tissue by Planned Parenthood indicts the accusers instead.

Pat Warren reports the Texas clinic under scrutiny is cleared of wrongdoing.

The Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion group, released secretly videotaped recordings of Planned Parenthood executives claiming to show they were involved in the illegal sale of fetal tissue.

The video ignited calls to cut federal funding and demonstrations on both sides nationwide, including a call in Baltimore for continued funding.

"I personally use Planned Parenthood and I think that it's so important," one woman said.

Now a Texas county grand jury investigating Planned Parenthood has instead indicted the people behind the camera for using fake driver's licenses and posing as a legitimate medical company.

It cleared the clinic of any wrongdoing.

"Planned Parenthood has never sold fetal tissue," said Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood executive vice president.

The Center for Medical Progress in a statement says it "...uses the same undercover techniques that investigative journalists have used for decades... and follows all applicable laws. Planned Parenthood still cannot deny the admissions from their leadership about fetal organ sales captured on video for all the world to see."

Planned Parenthood stands firm.

"We are vindicated by the findings of this grand jury," said Laguens.

The state of Texas investigation continues.

The Texas governor says nothing about the Harris County indictment affects the state's investigation.

Both activists face a charge of tampering with a governmental record--a felony.
