Garth Brooks Comes To Baltimore, First Time In 19 Years

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Garth Brooks takes the stage this weekend in front of  a sold out crowd at Royal Farms Arena.

The show is Brooks' first in Charm City in 19 years.

"The cool thing is you know the place and are familiar with the people, but it's a new place to play," said Brooks.

Brooks was set to take the stage last weekend, but the snow storm put a damper on the fun.

Trisha Yearwood, Brooks' wife, is also performing .

Yearwood has been busy writing cookbooks and starring in her very own cooking show, but says music is her first love.

"Music feeds my soul," she says. "Everyone always says, 'well you do all these other things, what if you had to pick?'"

Yearwood says she hopes she never has to pick, but if she had to, she would "definitely pick music."

"I am very excited. My parents brought us these tickets for Christmas," said Kim Lindhorst.

The arena is able to hold up to 14,000 people, and with the city now bustling back to life after last weekend's snow storm, this is a prime opportunity for businesses to recoup some money.

"If you are a small restaurant and you had to close last weekend, during the football playoffs for example, that's a lot of money," said Mike Evitts, Downtown Partnership.

Brooks is the number one selling solo artist in U.S. history. Fans can expect to hear hit after hit, along with new songs from his latest album, "Man Against Machine."

This weekend's show is the first of several blockbuster concerts coming up at the area.  Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna and Justin Bieber are just a few of the big headliners.

During Friday's press conference, Brooks was presented with the Digital Radio Award. He's the first country music artist to get the honor for reaching a billion streams on digital radio.

Brooks will also be playing a 7:00 p.m. show on Saturday and Sunday. For more information CLICK HERE.
