Police Searching For Witnesses In Morgan State Univ. Fatal Stabbing

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--The search continues tonight for the person who stabbed a Morgan State University student who later died at the hospital.

Marcus Washington has more on a mandate put in place at the university to prevent incidents-- like Monday's stabbing.

The campus of Morgan State University continues to mourn the loss of one of their own.

Gerald Williams, a 20-year-old sophomore was stabbed at the off-campus student apartments Monday night.

"I was hurt for him. It was just confusion, because he seemed like a happy go lucky guy," said Jonathan Chance, MSU junior.

Police said the altercation that led to the fight and later death of Williams started at a university basketball game against Coppin State University.

Many students say while sadden by the news, they are not surprised.

"Because we get emails like this, maybe every two weeks or something like that; somebody getting robbed, jumped or stabbed, someone breaking into someone's room, indecent exposure or something like that, a lot happens around campus," said Brandon Boone, MSU junior.

The university has dealt with a campus related stabbing before.

Three university football players were stabbed outside the cafeteria nearly a year ago, on March 18th of 2015.

Morgan State University's spokesperson says they started offering a conflict resolution course this time last year.

As of this school year, that course if mandatory for all students.

"In an effort to avoid situations like this--to teach students how to deal with conflict--we have more work to do," said MSU spokesperson Clinton Coleman.

Many students are hoping that work puts an end to senseless violence.

Many students say they aren't sure if increased security would prevent incidents like this from happening, but they say they could make people think twice before acting violently.

WJZ reached out to Dr. David Wilson's office, the president of the university.

Dr. Wilson was not available for an interview because of a previously planned trip.
