Slain Deputies Remembered For Bravery In The Line Of Duty

JOPPA, Md. (WJZ) -- Two Harford County sheriff's deputies are shot and killed in the line duty.

Meghan McCorkell has more on those deputies, and how they are being remembered.

Both deputies were longtime members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office, and both had been individually recognized for their bravery in the line of duty.

A tribute to the fallen heroes in Harford County.

"They were proud to wear this uniform, they were proud to be a part of this--as their families were proud to have them part of it," said Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, Harford County.

Senior Deputy Pat Dailey was a 30-year veteran of the force. Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon served for 16 years.

Both men were part of the Honor Guard and both were hailed as heroes--Dailey for helping save a teen driver trapped in a burning car in 2003; Logsdon for convincing a suicidal man to put down a gun in 2006.

"People probably don't realize how many lives those guys have touched," said Chris Gibbons, The Harford County Deputy Sheriff's Union.

Deputy Logsdon, a U.S. Army veteran and father of three, was an active member of the sheriff's union, helping raise money for the Benevolent Fund.

"Mark you could always count on for a good laugh. He always had something funny to say, just to brighten the mood up," said Gibbons.

Senior Deputy Pat Dailey was also a lifelong member at the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, signing up for service on his 16th birthday.

Dailey's two sons, Brian and Tyler, are also volunteer firefighters, though many others looked to him for guidance.

"He was a mentor. A lot of people have used that term 'mentor,' that he was a mentor to them," said 2nd Asst. Chief Josh Fannon, Joppa-Magnolia VFC.

Dailey also served in the U.S. Marines.

Now his family at the fire house is trying to cope with this loss.

"We're going to face this situation as a family, and we'll get through it."

As loved ones try to come to grips with this tragedy.

Dailey was a 37-year member of the fire company.

Several GoFundMe pages have been set up to honor the fallen deputies.
