Jeremy Conn: Orioles Are Making Moves

We have been hearing about the Orioles impending deal with Gallardo and the impact that could have moving forward with other free agents. When and If they sign Gallardo the Orioles would have to forfeit the 14 the overall pick in the draft. If they are willing to do that, then will they willing to lose the next pick and go after Dexter Fowler? Some think that is a distinct possibility.

Lets say they sign Gallardo, then here is a list of possible counter moves:

They sign Dexter Fowler and give up 2 picks. Fowler would become your everyday right fielder and lead-off hitter. He would also have the ability to spell Adam Jones in center.

They sign Pedro Alvarez he becomes your primary DH and Trumbo would become your primary right fielder. The O's defense would take a hit but the lineup would have a ton of pop and another left handed bat. Davis could also move to right and Trumbo or Alvarez could play first. They would also retain their second pick in the draft.

Trade for Jay Bruce. In this scenario you hope you have enough prospects to put together to get Bruce back. Christian Walker makes a ton of sense in a trade, but the Reds have Joey Votto blocking him at first base for many years. Walker would be in the same situation he already has in Baltimore. Also no DH in the national league, difficult to get AB's unless you become a pinch hitter off of the bench. Bruce would be a nice addition for the Orioles. An every day right fielder and your adding a left handed power bat to the lineup.
