Katy Perry opened up about her next album and who she'll be rooting for at the 2016 GRAMMY Awards.

Speaking with The New York Times, the singer said new music isn't around the corner. Perry takes a more traditional approach to cultivating an album. She follows a three-year cycle when working on an album, which means it may take until 2018 before fans hear anything new.

"I’m in the research and development phase," she said. "I’ve been going at it for eight or nine years in the spotlight, and then before that there’s that decade of hustle that never gets recognized but still shows up in your wrinkles. So right now I’m taking a little time. I don’t want to jump on any trends. I just need to evolve."

Perry won't be attending this year's awards ceremony. Instead, she said that her GRAMMY plans include watching the event "In my pajamas, eating matzo ball soup. No makeup, glad I’m not in a corset. Vicks cream on."

She'll be rooting on The Weeknd, though, in the midst of eating her soup. "He took a chance and went a little bit more pop," she said. "To see that growth happen so quickly and knowing his evolution is a pretty cool story."
