New Details Emerge On The Suspect Who Gunned Down Two Deputies

ABINGDON,Md. (WJZ)—As a community continues to mourn the loss of two Harford County deputies we're learning more about the suspect.

WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren has more on the suspect's background.

A frightening picture is emerging of the man who shot Harford County deputies Pat Dailey and Mark Logsdon.

David Brian Evans' estranged son tells our media partner the Baltimore Sun his dad was violent man.

"He beat my mom pretty bad, he says. "She was on the ground and he stomped her multiple times in the chest."

He showed up in Abingdon weeks before living in his car and his estranged family feared he was there for them.

Evans' son says he's been on the run since the late 1990's.

Evans' ex-wife Elizabeth Rupp told the Washington Post that she always suspected Evans shot her 17 years ago on New Year's Eve.  He apparently vanished afterward and she didn't see him again until an encounter at a Panera restaurant in Abingdon in December.

On Wednesday Rupp went back to the Panera restaurant to confirm it was her ex-husband and then she dialed 911.

Rupp even drove to the Harford County Sheriff's Office on Wednesda, in Bel Air to tell authorities.

Just what exactly Deputy Dailey knew, or how dangerous Evans may have been prior to responding, remains unclear.

"I am thankful they are dedicated to what they do. I will pray for these officers every day. I feel horrible," Rupp told the Post.

In a Facebook post, the daughter of Deputy Logsdon says, "to say that I am proud you is a complete understatement. I am so happy for the time I had with you. You are my best friend, you are my hero."
