The Big Chill: Single-Digit Lows Expected This Weekend
BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The big chill is here -- and the coldest air of the winter will descend upon us this weekend.
Temperatures will remain in the teens most of the daylight hours on Saturday and Sunday.
"Nighttime lows will reach the low single digits on Saturday night, but with strong winds ,the windchill will plummet to as low as minus 10," says WJZ's Bob Turk. "On Sunday the winds will abate somewhat, but it will be just as cold."
Due to the extreme cold expected, Baltimore city has issued a cold blue through the weekend as temperatures are expected to fall into the single digits with wind chill.
"I am issuing a Code Blue Declaration in Baltimore beginning tonight through Monday morning and encourage residents to limit their time outdoors, especially those most vulnerable to cold," said Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen. "Extreme cold temperatures can permanently injure, or even kill. Hypothermia, or low body temperature, can be just as dangerous as extreme heat, so it is important to stay indoors in heated areas. Be sure to check on your elderly neighbors to ensure that they have heat and power."
