School Volunteer Victimized 16 People Including Child At Church

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Prince George's County Police now say 16 people have been victimized, including a child at a Bowie church, in connection to a school sex abuse case.

22-year-old Deonte Carraway, is accused of targeting victims and video taping sex acts between minors during the school day at Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School in Glenarden.

Police believe sex abuse and child pornography was also produced at the Glenarden Municipal Center, Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatic Center as well as in private homes.

Carraway was a volunteer aid at the school during 2014-2015. He was also the director for the Glenarden Voices of Youth Choir.

The investigation began on February 4, 2016, when a victim's relative found a nude photo on a child's cell phone.

It's believed the photo was sent to the suspect through a messenger app known as "Kik".

Many victims have now come forward in this case ranging from ages 9-13.

Police say they have uncovered approximately 40 videos showing the young victims performing sexual acts on each other or alone at the direction of Carraway.

The latest victim was identified on Saturday. Police say Carraway victimized a child at Zion Praise Tabernacle Lutheran Church on Laurel Bowie Road in Bowie.

Earlier this week the Associated Press reported that a lawsuit was filed against the public school system claiming that the predator behavior was reported to the school's principal.

School system CEO Kevin Maxwell said Wednesday that principal Michelle Williams has been put on paid leave. The lawsuit claims teachers had expressed concerns about Carraway to Williams, but Williams said she couldn't act without proof

Carraway is charged with 10 counts of felony child pornography, sexual abuse of a minor and second degree sexual offense. Additional charges are likely.  Police say Carraway has admitted his involvement in the manufacturing and production of child pornography.

Victims are urged to come forward.
