The Norris & Davis Show Best Of - Week Of February 20th

This week's edition of the Norris & Davis best of features interviews with Orioles Manager Buck Howalter, and O's starting pitcher Kevin Gausman.

BUCK SHOWALTER

Buck joined Ed and Steve to talk about spring training which starts tomorrow when pitchers and catchers report.

Buck started off by talking about any updates he could give on the Yovani Gallardo negotiations saying "you guys probably know about as much as I do, Dan and I talk everyday or so and I told him we've done our due diligence and we know what it will mean to sign them or to not sign them." Buck talked also about the team and organization being prepared for either scenario if they acquire those guys or go on without them.

When Buck was asked about Hyun-soo Kim and what he expects Buck said "he came in yesterday, he's real excited about the opportunity...we think he has a chance to be one of the signings of the off-season." As for what he likes about Hyun-soo Kim's abilities Buck said "I like the fact that he walks and doesn't strike out a lot, we made sure he knows things he can't do with umpires over here."

Buck talked about other Orioles topics including the rotation and guys he expects to step up for the MLB club this season.

KEVIN GAUSMAN

Kevin joined Ed and Steve to talk about spring training which pitchers and catchers report to today.

Kevin started off by talking about his routine during spring training and what's expected of him saying "we do the same thing we've been doing come in and throw and get a workout in and make sure you're seen by the big guy...that'd be Buck." Kevin was asked about the style of managing from Buck Showalter and how prepared he is saying "I think he starts about January 1st and knows what he's doing straight from day one."

As for the Orioles being able to retain Matt Wieters, Chris Davis, and Darren O'Day and whether he was shocked by that Kevin said "to be honest I didn't expect that, I thought we might get one of those three guys...happy to have them all back they're all great guys and great teammates." As for how important re-signing O'Day was in his mind Kevin said "one of the biggest moves we could've made was bringing back Darren O'Day...he's been so good in the AL East which is the best division in baseball."

Kevin also talked about the Orioles possibly adding Yovani Gallardo, mastering his third pitch, the powdered doughnut story, and tattoos.
