WJZ Exclusive: Video Of Police-Involved Shooting In Baltimore County

MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (WJZ) -- A police officer shoots a man during a traffic stop and it's all caught on camera.

The surveillance footage just obtained by WJZ shows the moments leading up to the shooting.

WJZ's Meghan McCorkell is live with the dramatic images and the questions it answers.

Police say the officer was patrolling drug activity when the shooting happened.

The surveillance video we're about to show you is the same one police are now reviewing and plan to release on Monday.

In the surveillance footage, you can see the Nissan Altima pull up; the passenger gets out as the police car arrives on the scene.

When the lights turn on, the Altima pulls away -- leaving the passenger in the street with his hands up in the air.

But as the officer approaches seconds later -- the man reaches down towards his waist.

That's when the officer fires hitting the man at least once.

A closer look shows the moment the man reaches down.

He put his hands in his waistband area and he made an abrupt turn towards the officer. That caused the officer to fear for his life," said Cpl. John Wachter.

The officer was worried the man reached for a gun.

Investigators did not find a gun on the suspect, but says a loaded gun was found inside the car -- along with a scale and cash.

Police have arrested the car driver -- Timothy Dudeck -- who they say was found with suspected Oxycodone and cocaine as well as $1,800 on him.

The troubling incident has raised questions and WJZ went to get answers.

Where was the gun found in the car?

"The officers found the handgun in the passengers compartment of the vehicle that would make it accessible to anyone in the passenger compartment of the vehicle," said Wachter.

From the video, you can see the man who was shot was not near the car.
What happened to the officer?

Police say he's on administrative leave, pending the results of the investigation.
What charges could the suspects face?

"We have the firearm in the vehicle and we also have narcotics at the scene," Wachter said.

Investigators and the state's attorney are also looking closely at this surveillance video to determine if the officer could face any charges.

Investigators tell WJZ the man who was shot is expected to survive and will face charges when he is released from the hospital.

The driver faces both drug and weapons charges. He has been released on a $100,000 bail.
