Snow Possible Thursday Into Friday For Maryland

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--It's hard to believe that we could be talking about snow to end the week after a few consecutive days (including today) with temperatures in the 60's. This week will be a true testament to how the month of March can play out as we begin to transition into spring. An area of low pressure will approach the region Thursday before passing by to our south and then intensifying off the coast. As the system passes to the south, we will be in a favorable location for snow to develop across the area Thursday night into Friday.

Keep in mind that March snow is a bit different than snowstorms that occur during the dead of winter because we are dealing with a higher sun angle. In order to really be impacted by snow during the month of March, it needs to fall during the overnight hours when temperatures are colder.

With that being said, guidance suggests that snow will move in from west to east overnight Thursday into Friday AM. Due to the timing, the potential is there for roads to be impacted during the Friday AM commute so this is something that we will have to watch closely. Nothing is set in stone and we still need to sort things out when it comes to the exact track and potential snowfall amounts. Keep checking back with us as we continue to fine-tune the forecast.
