Police Still Searching For Clues In Maryland Cold Case

STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Police are still searching for clues in the suspicious death of a Stevensville woman whose body was found floating in the water in 2013.

Three years ago today a 51-year-old woman went missing and her remains were later found only to bring more questions than answers.

Robin L. Pope, had been residing with her husband, Wayne A. Pope Jr., in Stevensville until December 2012 when the couple separated.

Wayne Pope reported his wife missing on March 2, 2013 around 2:00 a.m. Pope explained to deputies that his wife Robin had come to the home late Friday night, March 1.

Shortly after she arrived, he then left the home.

When he returned to the home early Saturday morning, he found his wife's black 2011

Infinity still parked in the driveway with her keys, purse, credit cards and cash still in her vehicle.

Wayne Pope explained that both Robin Pope and their Great Dane was missing.

A few days later, the dog was found dead in the water at a nearby residence.

An exact cause of death for the dog was not identified, but it was determined the dog had not died from external trauma.

On March 23, 2013, Queen Anne's County Emergency Communications received a 911 call from a fisherman stating there was a body in the water near the shore.

Police and fire department personnel responded to the 500 block of Bay Drive.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner used dental records to positively identify the body as Robin Pope.

However, they were not able to come to an official cause of death.

State Police continue to work to identify how Robin died and determine if that cause of death was the result of a criminal act.
All possibilities remain open.

Anyone who has information, even if they think it is insignificant, is urged to contact the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit at the Easton Barrack at 410-822-3101.
