Steve Davis: Orioles' Injuries Causing Concern

Over the weekend, Kevin Gausman had a cortisone injection for tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.  He had a similar issue that caused him to miss 6 weeks last spring. That time, he didn't get an injection, so maybe this will speed things up.  Still, it has to be a concern that he won't be ready for the start of the season, which is just two weeks away.  That will be a tough task, getting him back to speed to get in enough innings to be ready to start the first week of the year. My guess is that he will need more time, although hopefully not much.

Matt Wieters is nursing a sore elbow and isn't back in games yet.  It's the same elbow he had Tommy John surgery on so they need to be careful. Ditto for him on the timetable.  Seemingly, the Orioles would have to be comfortable catching back to back games in consecutive days before they are confident he can be ready at the major league level.

With less than 2 weeks to go before the start of the regular season, I am concerned about him being able to be with the club from the get go.  There is still time for him, it is definitely alarming that his elbow acted up so early in the spring. Caleb Joseph is a good back-up, but the Orioles don't want to be starting the season with Gausman and Wieters on the sidelines.
