Confederate Flag Causing Controversy Near St. Mary's Welcome Sign

ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A Confederate flag behind a St. Mary's welcome sign is causing some controversy.

Some are calling for the flag to come down, but St. Mary's officials say it's not on county property or attached to the county sign.

The flag is about 45-feet behind the sign, on property owned by Budds Creek Motorcross Track. It was raised several days ago.

The county commissioner told our media partner, The Baltimore Sun, no further action will be taken and that the property owner is exercising his First Amendment right.
