Hundreds Attend Easter Mass In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

A day that is about more than just egg hunting and the Easter bunny.

WJZ's Tracey Leong explains how Marylanders honored this holiday.

America's first cathedral was overflowing with people for Easter Mass.

"It's the day of the lord's resurrection, meaning the lord rose from death to life and gave us a new source of life," said Archbishop William Lori, Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Inside the Baltimore Basilica church goers take the time to reflect.

"It's a joyous occasion and it means family really and togetherness," said one church goer.

Archbishop Lori says it's also a time for people around the world to renew their faith.

"It gives us a new strength and a new resolve to supplant evil with good and terror and hatred with love," he said.

Across town at the Christian Life Church on Liberty Road in Baltimore people also honor this holy day.

"The message we give is number one the resurrection of Jesus Christ which ultimately paid the cost for our salvation and justifies our faith," said Minister Wade Young.

A tradition that engages people of all ages to come together and rejoice.

"Share the good news Jesus Christ is alive, and that message brings about a sense of hope and purpose," said Senior Pastor Dr. Hugh Bair.

Pastor Bair says he hopes this message stays with everyone beyond the holiday.

Easter is typically one of the most well attended Sunday services of the year.
