Suspect In Jessup Double Shooting Fatally Struck By Train In Lanham

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- The search for a gunman has taken a tragic turn. Jacinto Del Prado, who opened fire on two people in Howard County, has died in an apparent suicide.

Marcus Washington has the latest in this investigation.

The truck stop where this happened is where the gunman reportedly took one life and sent another to the hospital. Before police could catch up with him, he took his own life.

The search for the man police say was responsible for the Jessup double shooting has come to an end. The victims, 44-year-old Chad Daniel dead at the scene, and 57-year-old Warren Weeden was badly injured.

"We heard straight bullets going everywhere. I've been trucking for 22 years and I've never experienced anything like this," said one witness.

After hours of searching for the suspect, Howard County police confirm the suspected shooter is dead by suicide. They say around 7 a.m. Monday, he was hit by a train in Lanham.

Howard County police say Del Prado's body was found at the scene in Prince George's County at the train-pedestrian collision. While the search for the shooter is over, the pain continues for family and friends of the victims.

As for a motive, Howard County police say it looks to be a case of mistaken identity. The investigation continues with both Howard County and Prince George's County police.

Weeden is still in the hospital.
