Md. Democrats Stop Republican Effort To Slow Down Bill

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Democrat-controlled Maryland Senate has stopped Republican efforts to slow down the passage of a bill that lawmakers are trying to send to Gov. Larry Hogan before a significant deadline.

Democrats voted 30-15 to limit debate Wednesday on a bill that would create a scoring system to prioritize transportation projects.

The Republican governor and Republicans in the legislature have criticized the measure, while Democrats say it's needed to increase transparency in the state's transportation funding process.

It's one of several bills Democrats are trying to get to the governor's desk before the end of the week. If they do, the legislature would have a chance to override a potential veto before lawmakers adjourn April 11, instead of having to wait until next year's session.
