Under Armour's CEO Brings Skateboard Company Into Port Covington

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's a collaboration of inventive ideas. Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank's mission to bring unique companies to Charm City has a custom-design skateboard company moving into Port Covington.

"You walk through this, and you have our wall here that says Bustin. Immediately on the other side of this wall, you have screen printers printing boards," said Ryan Daughtridge.

For 15 years, Hagerstown native Ryan Daughtridge has been custom building skateboards -- a passion that led him to quit his job on Wall Street to pursue his dream.

"We try to be a cool brand that makes a quality product," he said. "So you can go on our website and you can build your board and design your graphic, change the colors. You get something that's really kind of all you."

Bustin Boards piqued the interest of Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, who invited the company to move into City Garage--one of the first projects in the Port Covington redevelopment.

It's a hub for entrepreneurs growing their business and creating jobs in Baltimore City.

"It's an ecosystem of people who make cool stuff," Daughtridge said. "This partnership is great because it helps us, it just gives us so much experience to tap into, and advice, and then just to be a part of this project, it's a perfect next step for the company."

Sagamore Ventures is providing the capital, resources and industrial tools to help the skateboard brand thrive.

Kartalija: "You've got Kevin Plank and the Sagamore team behind you going, 'We want to support you.' How does that feel?"

"It's amazing," said Daughtridge. "Now we have a new opportunity, a new partner and lots of potential--but it's the same. I still wake up at 5 in the morning ready to fight. You've got to fight to get there, and you keep fighting."

Bustin Boards is on the Inc. list of the 500 fastest-growing private companies. They should be completely moved into City Garage in the next month.
