Md. Governor Announces More Transportation Projects

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- More transportation projects for state roads and highways. Governor Larry Hogan has announced plans for improvements in Anne Arundel County.

Political reporter Pat Warren has more on the road trip.

It's a road most traveled that's getting new attention.

"I [drive 175] every day," said one driver. "Sucks."

"It's terrible. Yeah, it's absolutely terrible," said another.

"The population around here has just gone crazy the last couple of years," said another.

"Here in Anne Arundel County, 175 is the number one transportation priority," Governor Hogan said.

The projects include the 175/295 interchange, widening lanes on 175 and improving heavily traveled intersections.

"That'd be great for the new people that come in here to Fort Meade," said Patricia Bell, who lives in Anne Arundel County.

And for the people who are already here.

"I work over by NSA and the only two options you have is 32 and 175 and both options suck," said April Newcomb.

Sounds like the state picked the right spot.

But nothing is ever simple. The governor has been fending off criticism from some lawmakers about money spent for roads vs. public transportation.

The construction cost for the Route 175 project is $139 million.
