WEATHER BLOG: Cold Air, High Winds Expected

After some rain this morning, some sunshine has broken through for the remainder of the afternoon. Things will get more active later on tonight as an arctic cold front to the west, moving through the Ohio valley and Great Lakes region sweeps through our neighborhood. As the strong cold front nears later tonight, it will be accompanied by a thin band of rain which is expected to arrive in the city after 10-11pm. Once the front moves though, the winds will shift around to the west and really pick up in intensity as the low-level jet strengthens. A high wind warning will go into effect at 11 p.m. tonight with gusts up to 60mph possible. It will remain very windy on Sunday. In addition to the strong winds, impressive cold air advection will take place late tonight bringing chillier temperatures to the region. Many spots will fall into the upper 20's and low 30's, and the wind will make it feel even colder. Winds diminish late tomorrow evening as a small area of high pressure builds in.
