After Viral Photo, 'Fist Pump' Boy & Officer Reunite

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — A special moment captured between a Baltimore County police officer and a little boy is going viral and warming hearts at the same time.

George Solis has details behind a touching snapshot.

Officer Jim Buckingham thought he'd just make a young fan happy. Both gained a whole lot more from the exchange. Only WJZ was there Wednesday for the reunion.

You've heard it before: a picture is worth a thousand words. A photograph showing a Baltimore County police officer in mid-fist bump with a little boy is proof sometimes you just need more.

The candid moment captured on camera inside a Chick-Fil-A is now going viral on the Internet.

"Ms. Miller wrote, 'There aren't enough words to describe the emotions felt by actually witnessing this in person," Officer Jim Buckingham said.

The officer in the picture is Buckingham.

"This is stuff you see on TV or on social media, not at the table right next to you," Officer Buckingham read.

Ironically, Buckingham is now reading the post about his interaction with four-year-old Luke. It's a moment he didn't take for fame, but because of what it meant to the little boy.

"It was nice to read something positive, especially here recently with some of the negative press," said Buckingham.

Jordan Miller is behind the post responsible for Wednesday's reunion--a meeting that may as well have been Christmas morning.

"I'm lucky. I'm the lucky one to have captured that and have gained them in the process, and also Mr. Buckingham as well," said Miller.

Luke's mother, Kasey Merrill, says her son's love for law enforcement runs deep. She expects this experience will only help that.

"At the moment, it felt like the world stopped for a few minutes," Merrill said. "He got down on my son's level. I was kind of overwhelmed at the moment."

All hopeful the titled "Fist Bump Seen Around The World" photo captures not only the hearts, but public perception of all good around us.

Luke says he plans to be a police officer when he grows up.

Officer Buckingham says he hopes to be there when little Luke graduates from the Police Academy.
