Mike Bordick Recaps O's Opening Day

Former Orioles Shortstop and current Oriole Broadcaster, Mike Bordick, joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk some Orioles baseball.

Joey Rickard was a Spring Training standout and he continued that hot streak into the season opener as he went 2-4 in his first major league game. Mike talked about Rickard's emergence, "He had to really prove himself and show that he was a major league player to make this team. Buck put him in every challenging situation he possibly could and Joey Rickard didn't disappoint so I wasn't really surprised to see him have such a good day. He was so consistent in Spring Training there just wasn't really any other way to go about it, he's on the team."

Chris Tillman looked strong in his 2016 debut as he pitched two scoreless innings with five strikeouts before exiting the game early due to Monday's rain delay. Mike broke down Tillman's impressive but short performance. "I hope; just like every Orioles fan, that he can stay consistent and have another great year because so many people think that last year may have been a fluke and I think that Tillman came in with a chip on his shoulder. Even in Spring Training...as these players get more experienced and repetitions their confidence grows. He had a very veteran like Spring Training so I think he's carrying it over. He started at 94-95 (mph) and typically we see him warming up to that kind of velocity but he was good to go right from the get-go and had command of all his pitches."
