Steve Davis: Orioles Off To A Hot Start

So much for the naysayers on the Orioles, right?

Yeah, I know it's early. But, 5-0 is 5-0, and the fact that no one else is undefeated and that the other time the Orioles started 5-0 was way back in 1970 when they went on to win their second World Series, certainly is cause for optimism. I still am not certain that the starting pitching will be more than what was predicted.

Even with them being 5-0, only Ubaldo has gone more than 5 innings and given them a "quality start." That said, the bullpen has been exceptional. They have had to pitch a lot and only Givens has given up any runs. The line-up is as promised, with them getting contributions up and down the order.  Manny just continues to be a force. Schoop likes he will develop into an All-Star.  Trumbo is spraying it all over the field, and his power will come. Rickard has been a feel good story, and certainly passes the smell test, even if it just is a week in.  Alvarez hasn't hit yet; maybe it will take a while for him to adjust to being a DH and not having a spot in the field. Jones has missed a couple games, but hopefully it won't be anything significant.

The Orioles have beaten a couple of teams that may not be very good, so we'll see when they take on some stiffer competition, but you have to be impressed with what you have seen so far.
