Baltimore Residents Mourn Prince

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Painting Baltimore in purple. The death of the iconic Prince has many paying tribute to the legend in all kinds of ways.

George Solis shows how the city is grieving the loss of a one-of-a-kind artist.

Many we've talked to are taking Prince's death to heart. Some even took off work; others are buying all the memorabilia they can still get their hands on.

The music is unmistakable. The man behind it all is iconic. All over the country, fans are mourning the death of Prince. The 57-year-old music and movie star died Thursday. Details of his death are still unknown.

"He was the best to ever do it," said a fan.

Friday, the Purple Rain star's music is all over Baltimore's airwaves.

"Prince touched everybody in some way, shape or form and I think the tributes that he's getting right now speak to that," said April Watts.

Heartbroken fans called in to radio stations to mourn and to celebrate rock star royalty.

"This is a rough, rough day," said another.

Last night, City Hall lit up in purple as tribute to the star, who also played a show in the city shortly after the unrest last year.

At the Sound Garden Record Store, Prince's music library is sold out.

"There was about four or five different titles in there yesterday," Bryan Burkert said.

Bulk orders are expected to go just as fast.

Tributes to Prince will continue through next week. The Senator Theatre will feature Purple Rain on the big screen for three nights, a full showcase of love and respect for an artist that truly was one of a kind.

"Once in a lifetime, that's right," a fan said.

A lot of clubs in town are also expected to throw purple-themed parties to honor Prince.

Prince's next album will feature the title song "Baltimore," which he wrote as a tribute to the city.
