Royal Caribbean Extends Contract to Sail Out Of Baltimore Year-Round

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Royal Caribbean cruise line has extended its contract with the Maryland Port Administration and will continue sailing out of Baltimore year-round through June 2020.

"Through this partnership, vacationers will continue to have a popular and convenient cruising option that provides a significant boost to Maryland's economy for years to come," Governor Larry Hogan said of the contract renewal.

"Great news, not only for the Port of Baltimore, but for the city and state that a major international cruise line has made a commitment to our area," said Richard Scher, spokesman for the Port of Baltimore.

Royal Caribbean will continue to help meet the high demand for travelers sailing out of Maryland.

The Port of Baltimore began year-round cruises in 2009. Since then, nearly every ship has departed at full capacity. It's an affordable vacation, attracting tourists from neighboring states and beyond.

"It gives people the chance to save on airfare, drive to the ship and either bank the money or spend it on the cruise," said Scher.

The cruise industry is also shining a spotlight on Baltimore, reminding people to explore the area before they set sail or after they dock.

"We always promote the restaurants, the entertainment, the sporting venues around the city," Scher added.
