Md. Candidates Campaigning Hard For Your Votes

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There are two high-profile races here in Maryland and the candidates are pulling out all the stops to get your votes.

Ava-joye Burnett has more on the race for mayor in Baltimore and the race to represent the state in the US Senate.

There's just one full day left until folks here in Maryland head to the polls and, along with their strong supporters, candidates depended on some big names to rally up support.

Sheila Dixon and Catherine Pugh---locked into a tight race for Baltimore's mayor---participated in a march for Freddie Gray.

"I am the only candidate who can really get in there and get things moving. I know it. I've worked in the community; I've embraced the communities," Dixon said.

"We are still running like we are 10 points behind because we are continuing to take our message to the people of moving our city forward and not backwards," Pugh said.

In the race for US Senate, Representatives Chris Van Hollen and Donna Edwards are also making the last minute push.

"I am asking the people of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, in fact the whole state for the opportunity to work with them to make sure that the great state of Maryland can be all that it can be," Van Hollen said.

"We are reaching out and touching voters, knocking on doors, making phone calls, making sure that we touch base with as many voters who is undecided right now and encourage them to cast a vote for me for the United States Senate," Edwards said.

Van Hollen and Edwards want to succeed retiring long-time US Senator Barbara Mikulski.
