Republican Candidates For Md. Senate Seat Look To Connect With Voters

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- The race for Maryland's US Senate seat is being watched nationwide.

Mary Bubala reports as the Democratic candidates battle it out, the Republican race is getting people's attention, too.

Republican US Senate candidate Kathy Szeliga is pounding the pavement, so to speak, looking for support during a tour of Maryland Paving in Cockeysville on this last day of campaigning before Primary Day.

"It's an important election. This is our chance to turn this country around," Szeliga said.

State Delegate Kathy Szeliga has grabbed attention for her down-to-earth ads, including jumping on a motorcycle.

Her opponent also has Baltimore County roots. Businessman Chrys Kefalas' family owns Costa's Inn in Dundalk. He was campaigning in Rockville Monday, connecting with voters who came to presidential candidate John Kasich's rally.

"I have been encouraged by the number of Trump, Kasich and Cruz supporters who are embracing our message of more jobs, lower taxes and strengthening our national security," Kefalas said.

In polls, both only garner 10-15% of the vote but they do offer voters a Republican alternative in the US Senate race.
