Metro Richmond Zoo Welcomes 13 New Cheetah Cubs

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Metro Richmond Zoo has announced the arrival of 13 cheetah cubs.

The zoo said in a news release that 16 cubs were born between March 21 and April 2 to three different mothers. Three of the cubs did not survive, bringing the current number of cubs to 13. The remaining cubs are healthy.

The zoo says that in the past two and a half years, 36 cubs have been born from seven litters as part of the zoo's cheetah breeding program. Cheetahs are considered endangered, with about 7,500 remaining in Africa.

The cubs and their mothers can be watched through the zoo's "cheetah cam" HERE.
