WEATHER BLOG: Mainly Cloudy

After a cloudy, cool and damp Friday, some relief is in store today. Despite a mainly cloudy day, highs should climb into the 60s ahead of the next storm system. There could be some areas of patchy fog early this morning.

A storm containing two separate areas of low pressure across the central Plains will track eastward toward the East Coast tonight. The first low will bring rain to the area with a start time between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. Rain will start from west to east. Rain will continue during Saturday night and Sunday morning. Rain could be steady at times Sunday morning. There could be a couple afternoon thunderstorms, mainly south of Baltimore during Sunday afternoon. Some storms could contain brief heavy downpours.

As the first low departs later Sunday, the next low will track towards the region from the Ohio Valley during Sunday night. Plenty of moisture will aid in times of rain and drizzle. Similar to Sunday, there could be a thunderstorm south of the city. It is not out of the question that a pocket of steadier rain could move across the area as the second low passes through.

On Monday, the storm will be over New England and will move into the Maritimes. Showers could still be around in the morning before the area dries out during the afternoon. Where showers depart, there can be a few peaks of sun in the afternoon. Highs should climb much closer to average. Tuesday will be another nice day with some sunshine and highs near average.
