Ambulance Crew Assaulted While Assisting Patient In PG County

WASHINGTON (WJZ)—A female member of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department was assaulted while assisting the medical needs of a teen on Sunday morning.

Authorities say a medic unit responded around 5:30 a.m. to a "sick person" call to an apartment in the 8100 block of 15th Avenue in Langley Park.

"The crew started to evaluate the patient when suddenly and without warning he grabbed a female crew member and assaulted her with his fist," said Mark Brady, a spokesperson for the Prince George's County Fire & EMS. "The quick thinking crew was able to maneuver themselves away from the combative patient and made their way out of the apartment."

Brady says the teen was restrained in handcuffs and was transported to the hospital by another ambulance crew.

It is unknown if charges will be filed against the teen.

"The female crew member was shaken over the incident but is remaining on-duty," Brady said.
