Montgomery County Police Wear Special Badge To Honor Fallen Officers

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- This month, Montgomery County officers are wearing special badges.

The badges are worn throughout May in remembrance of the police department's fallen officers.

The front of the badge bears the phrase "lest we forget" and the back of the badge has the names of 18 fallen officers.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day.
