Fugitive Kills Himself After Police In Baltimore Try To Arrest Him

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A fugitive wanted in North Carolina has taken his own life after police here in Baltimore attempted to arrest him.

State police say investigators were in the 6000- block of Loch Raven Boulevard on Tuesday when they spotted a stolen vehicle from North Carolina parked behind a home.

Officers then knocked on the front door, asking for the suspect to turn himself into police.

Minutes later, he came out the back holding a handgun. Without warning, he shot himself in the head.

Police say the 54-year-old suspect had previously lived in Baltimore. He was wanted in connection with a series of crimes in Greensboro, North Carolina. They include the armed robbery of a phone store, the intentional ramming of multiple police vehicles during a subsequent pursuit, a home invasion and kidnapping after he fled on foot and the theft of a Hyundai Santa Fe from the home he had broken into.

No one else was in the home at the time of the incident.

Police are investigating the connection between the suspect and the people living there.
